This will be a multimedia series that contains drawings, moving image, performance, and sculpture work.

The project started off with an obsession with the returning popularity to the Houndstooth textile. I found that the name “houndstooth” had become so commonplace that we had collectively forgotten the origin of the name. I began collecting hundreds of actual hounds teeth through ethically sourced taxidermy groups on eBay and Etsy. Almost all of the molars I collected were from coyotes. I then scanned these teeth and imported them to Adobe Photoshop and began the impossible task of trying to replicate a tessellating houndstooth print out of actual hounds teeth.

From there I started a drawing series mirroring these teeth in drawings. To create the high contrast black/white style of the print, I mapped out a mirror image of the teeth, drew the positive, scanned the drawing, inverted it in photoshop, then used that as a reference to complete the other half of the drawing so the teeth will be perfectly inverted from each other.

I’m not quite ready to share the other components of this series yet, but will slowly roll out the work as it is completed.
